SUNKEN STEAMBOATS OF MOOSEHEAD LAKE: A Documentary Film Project
The Story
Imagine traveling from bustling cities like Boston or New York, and arriving at the wilderness of Moosehead Lake via train. In the early 1900s, tourists, sportsmen, and businessmen would then board one of over 25 steamboats that cruised the lake, ferrying passengers to grand resorts and remote areas. This vibrant history of steamboating on Moosehead Lake now lies beneath its waters, where the remains of these once-proud vessels rest.
The Documentary
The documentary "Sunken Steamboats of Moosehead Lake" brings this history to life by exploring three sunken steamboats. Through high-definition underwater footage, interviews, and historic images, this film tells the stories of these vessels and the people whose lives they touched. The project is a collaboration with the Moosehead Marine Museum, Moosehead Lake Divers, and the Moosehead Historical Society.
